Time Management Hacks for REALTORS®

Just about everybody dreams of being their own boss – calling the shots, making the schedule, not having to answer to anyone else. That’s why so many people get into real estate. You get the assistance of working with other REALTORS® and the tools of your brokerage but you are in charge of your own life and schedule. You can work as much or as little as you want. Of course, the downside is that if you don’t work as hard for yourself as you would for someone else, you’re likely to have some trouble making the kind of money you want to. It can be hard to get motivated to keep a schedule sometimes when no one is keeping you accountable. We’re here to give you some tips to help manage your time better so you can be as successful as you want to be.

1.     Create a schedule

Don’t discount how helpful it can be to have a defined schedule of what you are doing each day. If you enter your workday aimlessly, you’re unlikely to get the work done that will help advance your position to where you want it to be.

2.     Set expectations by communicating your schedule

You can develop whatever kind of schedule you feel most comfortable with, but you should communicate that schedule to your clients, so they know what to expect from you. If you don’t start your workday until noon, your clients should know that they won’t be able to get ahold of you in the morning. This might not be the best practice, as your clients would like to be able to count on you when they need you but you are free to make your own work hours, whatever you might want them to be.

3.     Invest in a CRM and other management tools

One of the most amazing things about the time we live in is all of the resources available to us. 30 years ago, REALTORS® didn’t have access to even a fraction of the technology that we have today. Having good software that can keep you organized, manage your clients, manage your schedule, and help keep you on track can make a huge difference in your ability to be successful. Some brokerages, like Key Realty, will even give you access to your own CRM for free.

4.     Hire an assistant to help with menial tasks

When you work for yourself there’s a lot of movie pieces in your day-to-day life that need to be managed. If you get bogged down dealing with the trivial stuff, you might not be able to handle the bigger tasks that require your attention. Hire an unlicensed personal assistant to keep you on track by taking care of the cold-calling and data management things that you don’t want to deal with.

Being in control of your schedule can give you a new purpose and drive to work harder and achieve more. But it can also cause you to become lazy and procrastinate important tasks. Be accountable to yourself by setting up simple time management tools that will keep you on track. Key Realty offers a number of tools to their agents to make sure that they are successful in their real estate careers. If you are thinking of becoming a REALTOR®, just remember, you’ll do better with Key.
